We are honored to present at Nipea (International Center for Thought in Environmental Epistemology) an excerpt from the forthcoming book Re-worlding the World: Schelling’s Philosophy of Art (2024), authored by Nat Trimarchi, a PhD candidate at Swinburne University of Technology. This work will soon be published in English and Spanish by NIPEA and Cosmotheoros. In this insightful text, Trimarchi delves into Schelling’s perspectives on religion and his cosmological and ontological approach to art. He argues that Schelling’s «dialectical aesthetics,» rooted in «process metaphysics» marks a substantial advancement over the theories of Kant and Hegel. Schelling contends that to counteract the self-destructive tendencies of modern mythology, it is essential to reorient the «final cause» within our narratology, making a clear distinction between the appropriate use of metaphor and symbolic constructions in conceptual art.
